Two new productions are currently taking shape at Khazad-Dûm Studios.

The first is the upcoming album from Seventh Holocaust, which is already nearing completion. Only the vocals, mixing and mastering remain. The label responsible for its release has not yet been announced.

This time, the band is heading towards a sound more deeply rooted in the early-to-mid 80s, with a much stronger Celtic Frost influence than on the debut. Expect a rawer, more organic production and a slight change in the vocal approach, recalling the early works of Sodom and Kreator.

The second production is the new attack from Briargh. Three tracks are being recorded, and the material is already well advanced. The intention is to release it as a split CD with German Pagan Black Metal band Blackest Age.

Little else can be revealed for now. What is certain is that this release will bring together two different visions of Pagan Black Metal, marking another step forward in the inexorable progression of both bands.

Ave!

As some of you may know, Briargh is my solo project. Over the years it has been consolidating its sound, whose mix of Pagan Metal and Black Metal has gone through different episodes, transformed into demos, EPs, Splits and albums since the distant 2003.

For this occasion, and being the second chapter in the trilogy «LABAROS», whose title is «CIVERVO», I have counted on the collaboration of Argus on drums. He is also my partner in Funebre Devastation. Kalígine repeats as vocalist in one song, and on this occasion, she also wrote the lyrics.
On the other hand, Kalari is the girl who collaborates with the hurdy-gurdy. A traditional instrument that I wanted to add and I don’t have the knowledge.

A long production that began in the first instance in 2012 and that, at times, I have been adding layers and perfecting. On this occasion, the sound has grown. I have added influences from Bathory or the old Manowar, with an Epic Metal that I may develop more in the future. Influences, on the other hand, that Briargh has always had to a greater or lesser extent.

As I did with the previous release of «Autóctono», I have collaborated with the magnificent label Vertebrae for this edition, which is limited to 300 copies worldwide.

Another great review, this time from UK, here: https://thoseonceloyal.wordpress.com/2016/03/02/review-briargh-eboros/

Briargh are a band that I can only describe as brilliant; formed in Spain back in 2003, the one-man band have become an amazing mixture of black, death and folk metal, and does it in a way which can only be described as brilliant. Focusing on themes of paganism, mythology and history, the band are back with a new full length album entitled Eboros. A beautiful album with a mixture of beautiful melodies and riffs, hard-hitting and rough drums, as well as dark, screeching, Hellish vocals which adds power and energy into such a powerful album.

The first track on the album, “El Lianto Del Bosque”, starts off with Burzum-sounding guitar melodies which mix beautifully with fast, heavy drums. When the deep, dark vocals start; the melodies and riffs quicken which add to the heaviness of the track. A track complete with different tempos add volume and depth to the track, and it is a brilliant start to the album.

Another track on the album which really stands out for me is the third track entitled “Sword of Woe” which for me is a perfect example of black metal infused folk metal. A song mixed with heavy vocals and female vocals and the mixture of the melodies and riffs on this track have already captivated me in a beautiful, enriched manor. Everything on this track is as heavy as anything including the vocals, melodies, riffs and drums. What really captivates me on this track is the “Whoa-wo-wo” clean vocals part of the track which makes folk metal really stand out on this track in a seamlessly beautiful way. This track for me works amazingly well and it is a track of complete perfection on the highest point.

“El Canto De Las Anjanas P.T II” is the sixth track on the album complete with hard-hitting drums beautiful melodies and riffs and raw heavy vocals kick off the track. Throughout the song can be heard slower riffs and melodies with heavier vocals adding power to this track. There is also a mixture of fast-paced instruments and tempo changes which add incredible beauty to this amazing piece of art. Keyboards and synths also come into work in this track which again just adds to the folk metal theme. This really is just a work of 100% perfection, and the use of the keyboards and synths add more beauty to an already beautiful track.

The last track on the album “Eboros – Epitome of Deat” for me was the best 5 minutes and 58 seconds of my life, a track that starts off with heavy keyboard and synths which almost sound like Summoning. Throughout tempo changes a beautiful keyboard melody can be heard behind what sounds like a male choir which gives off a mystical element on the track, when female vocals start the mystical element of the track, gives of pure beauty. As the female vocals end and synth melodies pave the way for heavy drums, bass and guitar riffs which makes the track seem darker and adds to the power behind the track. As the dark powerful screeching vocals enter the mystical element of the track may be washed away but the rawness and the power of the album remain right until the end.

A beautiful album which keeps on giving right to the end, an album that can only be described as flawless, perfect and beautiful a magnificent piece of art which is written in such a way where everything fits in this album (including instruments and vocals) flawlessly in an absolutely incredible album.

Briargh – Eboros

Briargh is a one man band made up of, Dux Briargh – All instruments and vocals. Music style is listed as, Melancholic Black Metal. Band location, Spain.

Eboros album released on October 27th, 2015, Morbid Shrine Productions. The music comes through with pure aggression and savagery. Nothing is over-processed. A very natural sounding recording is captured. Interesting aspects of the arrangements is how well the two guitar tracks compliment each other and trade of rhythms.

The song «Eboros – Epitome of Death», has a captive and creative keyboard piece along with female vocals complimented with a clean strumming guitar. A thing to note, these songs are all in spanish. It is the first time I have heard black metal with spanish lyrics, it fits well and adds a different dynamic to the album.

The drums have a natural sound and it is actually good to hear how intense the string parts are pronounced with the relentless battery of blast beats.
Final thoughts, if you want pure, abrasive and from deep in the underground metal music, then this is for you.

Some label owners are way too nice people.  They have their own music project but tend to promote other bands more.  I have no idea why they do that but it seems a habit of some people. Perhaps, they are a bit uncertain about their own abilities, certainly when they hear the masterpieces some other bands on their label produce.  Because of that, some serious gems are left being underrated and unknown, which really is a shame.

Briargh is the blackened pagan folk metal act by Morbid Shrine’s owner Dux Briargh.  Influenced by acts like Burzum and Drudkh he started working on this project years ago.  To me, it sounds like a very old school black metal album with several folk influences thrown in, which obviously is a good idea. It’s been awhile since I heard something like this and I have to say, I’m glad this album reached me.

What I like most about this album, is the combination of bleak black metal and the warm sound of the instruments.  It’s an odd contradiction but one that works very well.  This isn’t a mere blast-beats driven piece of black metal but a melodic and mysterious sounding version of the genre, highlighting in songs like ‘El Llanto del Bosque’ and ‘Dubos Etenos’. Often I’m reminded of acts like Bergthron, Windir or Falkenbach.

I really think it would be a shame if this album wouldn’t get much attention.  It is a very strong example of a strange and underrated subgenre.  So yes, I would like to recommend it to all the black metalheads out there, certainly the ones who love a bit of paganism and melody in their music.  Nice work…

 Briargh: Eboros (Review)

Artist: Briargh
Album:  Eboros
Medium:  CD
Stil:  Melancholic Black Metal
Label:  Morbid Shrine Productions
Erschienen:  October 27th, 2015
Website:    Briargh

Briargh seems to be a very personal and occult project from Erun Dagoth (ex-CrystalMoors, Hrizg, Neverendinghate, Deprive…). This one does not even have a Facebook or website, in a total Underground, misanthropic and mysterious way, like in the old times. Let us see what its creator has told us about this solo project and his new masterpiece: Eboros.

1. Briargh is your solo project since its birth, back in 2003. Have you ever considered sharing it with other musicians for studio or live shows?
Not really. Briargh is my dream, and I don’t like it when someone disturbs it. I think it is purer in this way, even when I am sure the material could sound better with other musicians. But this is not my goal. Anyway, I could do an exception for one album or so. But Briargh is what it is. Me alone.

About live performances, well… I think it is very hard to achieve it. Briargh has a lot of arrangements and melodies that cannot be done on live. You should use extra samples or a lot of musicians. Not of my taste, to be honest.

briargh

2. When did you start to explore so different languages? Talk about it, please.
I started since  the very first demo «Labaros». I used Spanish and English. I added Protocelt around 2004, when I started to write the lyrics of the «Kanttrug» album. I think it sounds very primitive and unique. The way that Briargh should sound.

3. What does «Eboros» mean?
«Eboros» means «Yew» in Protocelt. It is a very common tree in Cantabria (where I live). Used by our ancestors to end their lives when they felt useless to the community. It was used as alternative to enslavement too. Better dead than a slave.

4. How was it recorded? I saw that it was done during the years 2013 and 2015. Why?
I did the drums in an old rehearsal place in early 2013, but the rest of the recording was frozen during some months. I returned to it, with the guitar parts, when I changed rehearsal place. I did all the strings (bass and guitars) between the last of 2013 and early 2014. For the vocals, I used another old rehearsal place. The old one from my past band CrystalMoors. I also recorded some extra screams and vocals in the Ucieda forest at night. A great and mystic place here in Cantabria. About the rest of arrangements and keyboards, I did them in early/mid 2015, really. I had some job changes, and I got a new flat. Things that have delayed it a bit.

5. And you have worked with Enserune on guest female vocals… Introduce her to our readers.
Yes, she is a very talented singer and we worked some harsh and melodic lines for the album. She is the lead singer of Neverendinghate, and plays bass guitar in Hrizg.

6. Lower Silesian Stronghold released it on CD a couple of months ago. How’s it going with the promotion and the response?
It is going good, I think. LSS is doing a good job, as always. I support it from my side, of course, and I count with Morbid Shrine Productions here so, the album is working fine for my taste. The distribution is wide and I think a lot of people can get a copy without problems. Anyway, the album is still very new and there is a lot of work to do.

Ucieda forest

7. I have been reading something about a fourth album?
Yes, you are well informed. I am working in my fourth full length. There are four years from «Kanttrug» to «Krigas», and six from «Krigas» to «Eboros». It won’t happen again.

8. Any advance about the future of the project?
Just that I am working on this fourth album, and it will have a similar sound to «Krigas», but mixed with the melodies of «Eboros». I am preparing a good one, and I am very satisfied with the advance. Appart from this, I don’t know what to say. The future changes every day.

_________________________

Erun in 2006

7. ¿He leído algo sobre un cuarto álbum?
Sí, estás bien informado. Estoy trabajando en mi cuarto disco. Pasaron cuatro años desde «Kanttrug» a «Krigas», y seis desde «Krigas» a «Eboros». No volverá a pasar.
